UNESCO-CUC Chair on Media and Gender
联合国教科文组织—中国传媒大学“媒介与女性”教席成立于2005年9月,是联合国教科文组织在中国设立的第十八个教席,也是中国信息传播领域的首个教席,其宗旨是拓展“媒介与女性”的学术研究和探索实践,推动媒介对性别平等理念的传播,促进女性自身发展和社会文明进步。中国传媒大学媒介与女性研究中心是教席的执行机构,中心主任刘利群教授担任教席主持人。
自成立以来,“媒介与女性”教席以联合国教科文组织、中国传媒大学为依托,与学界和业界进行了广泛的合作和交流。三年多来,“媒介与女性”教席在学术交流、业界合作、课题研究等方面取得了丰富的工作成果,在学界和业界产生了较广泛的影响。鉴于教席取得的成绩和影响,2008年4月28日,联合国教科文组织高等教育处处长 Georges Haddad先生来函,正式批准了教席提交的延长申请,新任期为4年。
一、科研活动
在联合国教科文组织北京办事处和中国传媒大学的支持下,“媒介与女性”教席开展了一系列科研活动。迄今为止,教席研究人员及学术顾问承担的科研项目共计22项,其中教育部项目2项,中央其他部门社科研究项目5项。教席研究人员出版著作近20余部,发表论文100余篇。重要项目如“社会性别视野下的媒介研究”、“中、韩女性媒介比较研究”等。《社会性别与媒介传播》获妇女/性别研究优秀博士论文奖;“媒介与女性”教席出版的《中国媒介与女性年度报告2005-2006》,是中国第一部关于媒介与女性研究的年度报告。
二、专业教学
在“媒介与女性”教席的积极推动下,2006年,中国传媒大学在传播学硕士专业下开设“媒介与女性”方向,这是中国在该研究领域的第一个硕士点,“媒介与女性”教席参与了该方向研究生的培养工作。2006年以来,该研究方向共招收了三届硕士研究生,共14人。教席还在中国传媒大学开设了“媒介与女性专题研究”研究生公共选修课,引起了很大反响。
三、业界培训与合作
“媒介与女性”教席积极开展针对媒体从业人员的培训活动,为媒体业界提供理论指导,取得较好的社会效果。参与的培训主要有全国妇联“将性别平等纳入媒体决策主流高级培训班”(2005年12月),商务部“非洲国家广电新闻采编研修班”(06年11月)等。同时,教席与中央电视台、北京电视台、广西电视台等多家电视台的女性电视节目、栏目有广泛的交流,还与《中国妇女报》、《都市女报》、《今日女报》等女性媒体有直接的合作。
今年12月,“媒介与女性”教席将与牛津大学国际性别研究中心合作举办学术研讨会,并开展针对女性媒体从业人员的国际培训课程。
四、学术交流
在联合国教科文组织北京办事处和中国传媒大学的支持下,“媒介与女性” 教席举办了一系列成功的国际论坛,包括 “联合国教科文组织—中国传媒大学‘媒介与女性’教席北京国际论坛”、(2006年1月)“美丽新世界 和谐姐妹情——中国传媒大学与驻华女大使、使节夫人、女外交官及外交官夫人‘三八’节联谊会”(2006年3月)、“第三届世界大学女校长论坛”之“媒介政策与性别平等”分论坛(2006年8月)、“女性·奥运”论坛(2007年9月)
教席研究人员还积极参加各种学术会议和研讨会,包括:联合国教科文组织在突尼斯举行的世界信息社会高层会议、联合国教科文组织2008-2013年度中期战略规划高层专家研讨会、第三届亚洲女性论坛、第43届亚洲及太平洋地区广播联盟(ABU)大会“性别政策与广电机构”论坛、新西兰 “女教师培养与女性领导力的发展”研讨会、日本 “老龄化社会中的高等教育”研讨会等,夏威夷 “妇女领导力”论坛。
五、国际交流与合作
在教席合作方面,“媒介与女性”教席积极联系国内外相关教席,开展了多种多样的学术交流与合作。例如,06年1月第一届“媒介与女性”教席论坛邀请来7个国家的不同教席共同参与;08年9月参与中国教席年会,与中国20个教席共议教席的发展。
“媒介与女性”教席还积极开展与国外大学和科研机构的国际交流与合作,目前已经与十余个国家(地区)的大学和科研机构开展了不同程度学术交流,包括英国西敏斯大学媒体、艺术、设计学院;牛津大学国际性别研究中心;芬兰坦佩雷大学新闻与传播学院;纽约城市大学当代中国研究中心;哈萨克国立大学性别研究中心等;台湾世新大学性别研究中心。
UNESCO-CUC Chair on Media and Gender, the 18th chair of UNESCO in China and also the first chair in the information communication field, was established in September 2005.
Its purposes are to develop theoretical research and practice on media and gender, to improve the communication of gender equality on media, and to promote female self-development and the progress of social civilization. Media and Gender Institute of Communication University of China is an executive organization, and Liu Liqun, the director of the center, takes charge of this chair.
Since its establishment, UNESCO-CUC Media and Gender Chair has carried out substantial activities in research, teaching, training, academic exchange and cooperation since its establishment in September 2005. On April 28, 2008, Georges Haddad, Director of the Division of Higher Education, UNESCO, officially approved the renewal of the Chair for another four years on the basis of positive evaluation of the Chair’s work and influence.
1.Research Project
With the great support of UNESCO Office Beijing and Communication University of China, UNESCO-CUC Media and Gender Chair has carried out a series of research projects. Till now, the research team and academic advisors of the Chair has undertaken twenty-two research projects, among which 2 are funded by the State Ministry of Education and 5 by the Ministerial Social Sciences Foundation. For example, “The Media Research in the Gender Perspective” and “Comparative Study on Chinese and Korean Media”.
The research team has published more than 20 works and monographs and more than 100 papers. Professor Liu Liqun’s Gender and Media Communication won “Excellent Doctoral Dissertation” in women/gender studies awarded by Chinese Women’s Research Society in December 2006. The Annual Report on China’s Media and Chair Research 2005-2006 published in 2007 is the first annual report on media and gender research in China.
2.Teaching Program
With the great efforts of Media and Gender Chair, Communication University of China established the Master Program of Communication Studies with the orientation of “media and gender” in 2006. This is the first master program in the area of media and gender in China. Now there are 14 graduate students majoring in this field. Moreover, the Chair offers optional course “Media and Gender Studies” in the university and earns recognition from both students and teachers.
3. Training and Cooperation
Media and Gender Chair actively participate in training programs for media professionals so as to provide theoretical guidance for them, and all these programs have produced deep social influence, such as the advanced training on “The Mainstreaming of Gender Equality into Media’s Policy-Making Process” organized by All China Women Federation (December 2005), “Broadcasting and Television News Collecting and Editing Workshop for African Countries” held by the Ministry of Commerce (November 2006). What’s more, the Chair has carried out substantial exchange programs with female Channels and Programs of Central China TV Station, Beijing TV Station, and Guangxi TV Station, etc., and has carried out cooperation with women media such as China Women’s News, Urban Women and Women Today.
In December 2008, the Chair is scheduled to co-host with International Gender Studies Centre, Oxford University a workshop entitled with “International Dialogue and Cooperation in Gender Communication”, and training courses for women media professional will be provided.
4.? Academic Exchange
Media and Gender Chair has successfully hosted international forums such as “UNESCO-CUC Media and Gender Chair Beijing International Forum”(January 2006), “Beautiful New World Harmonious Sisterhood: International Women’s Day Networking Party with Women Ambassadors, Mrs. Ambassadors, Women Diplomats and Mrs. Diplomats from Embassy in China ”(March 2006), Sub-Forum “Media Policy and Gender Equity” of “The Third World Women University Presidents Forum” (August 2006) and “Women& Olympics” Forum (August 2007).
On the other hand, the research team attended various academic conferences and seminars. Among others, there are UNESCO “World Summit on the Information Society”(Tunis, December 2005), “Top-Level Expert Seminar on UNESCO Medium-term Strategic Plan for the Year 2008 to 2013” (Beijing, May 2006), “The 3rd Asia Women's Forum” (Hong Kong, May 2006), Sub-Forum of “Gender Policy and Broadcasting Organization” of “The 43rd Asian and Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Conference”(Beijing, November 2006), “The Mentoring of Female Faculty and the Development of Women Leadership”(New Zealand, November. 2007), “Women’s Higher Education in Aging Society”(Japan, May. 2008), “Women Leadership”(Hawaii, September 2008).
5.? International Exchange and Cooperation
Media and Gender Chair attaches great importance to the exchange and cooperation with chairs at home and abroad. In January 2006, the Chair invited 7 UNESCO Chairs to attend the Media and Gender Chair Beijing International Forum and discussed Chair cooperation. In September 2008, Professor Liu Liqun attended the annual conference of UNESCO Chair in China and discussed the sustainable development of the Chair with other Chinese Chair-holders.
What’s more, the Chair promotes international exchange and cooperation with universities and institutes from abroad. So far the Chair has carried out academic exchange with universities and institutes from more than10 countries and regions including Media, Art and Design College, British Westminster University; International Gender Studies Centre, Oxford University; Department of Journalism and Communication, Tampere University, Finland; Chinese Research Center, the City University of New York; Center for Gender Studies, Kazakh State University; and Center for Gender Studies, Shih Hsin University in Taiwan, China, etc.
